Along the Ancient Inca Trail

30 minute audio visual and workshops, Grades 2-12

Based on three separate excursions to the Highlands of Peru and Ecuador in 2006 and 2007, "Along the Ancient Inca Trail" explores the mysteries of the Inca Empire, which flourished over 500 years ago and once extended from Ecuador to Chile. In depth photography of mythic Inca sites like Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Sacsayhuaman, and Machu Picchu give the viewer an exciting sense of discovery and wonder. The collision of the Spanish and Inca still shapes the culture of Peru and Ecuador today. Festivals that once carried Inca mummies around the main square of Cusco now parade Christian saints and martyrs. Colorful markets display homemade fabrics, produce and livestock. Wild costumed dancing marathons wind their way up to mountaintops. The inhabitants of small villages farms in remote corners of these countries generously shared their smiles and hospitality, allowing Fairchild to create an affectionate portrait of daily life in the mountainous regions of Ecuador and Peru. Cost $500 per day.
